Welcome to the E-portfolio!
I am T.M.B.N. Thennakoon (PGIE/TESL/21/D121) , Lecturer (Temporary) in English who is affiliated with the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT), University of Kelaniya. This e-portfolio has been created for the requirements of the completion of the PGP8503| Teaching Practicum course.
This portfolio contains my experience of the teaching practicum that took place for 6 weeks from the 03rd of October 2022 to the 11th of November 2022. All the lessons I have included in the e-portfolio were delivered focusing on three courses; Academic Literacy I, English for Social Sciences and Foundation: A Certificate Course in English. Even though there is a basic syllabus that should be covered, within its domains, I employed different teaching methodologies and try to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during PGDip TESL to the classroom setting. Consequently, within the thirty-seven lesson plans outlined to cover hundred teaching hours, I have used different types of teaching methodologies
In this e-portfolio, I have included the following sections:
1.) Introduction
2.) Teaching context and Learner profile
3.) Teaching Philosophy
4.) Logbook
5.) Course outlines and Weekly schedules
6.) Five lesson plans, materials and detailed reflections
7.) Observation reports
8.) Peer observation reports
9.) Artefacts
10.) My growth during the PGDip TESL
11.) Weekly lesson plans, materials and mini reflections
12.) Recordings and Students’ activities
13.) Student Feedback
I make this an opportunity to show my gratitude to my mentor, Mr. Hasitha Pathirana, for his immense support in guiding me and showing me the way to become a great ELT practitioner for my students. Then, I would like to thank my supervisor, Mr. T A Pushparajah for giving immense support for my professional growth. Ms. Gevani Prahalathan, the Head of the Department of English Language Teaching, I would like to pass my sincere gratitude for being a facilitator when I am in need. Furthermore, I thank the Postgraduate Institute of English for allowing me to compile this portfolio which supported me to reflect on my practices as an ELT practitioner. This was a hard, yet compelling experience I encountered in my academic career. I have learned a lot in this process of developing a portfolio and I hope those learnings become evident through my effort.
