Teaching Philosophy

My aspiration of growing into an English Language Teaching practitioner was a long-lasting expectation. Therefore, one of my treasured ambitions was to enter Mahaweli National College of Education. But fortunately, my hope to become a proficient ELT practitioner ended up by entering as an undergraduate at the University of Kelaniya reading for Bachelors in Teaching English as a Second Language. My teaching career started after I completed my Advanced Level Examination in 2014. I joined a reputed private school. Henceforth, teaching became deliberately an inseparable episode in my life where I have around 9 years of experience. Currently, I employ as an ELT practitioner in a Sri Lankan state university, mostly teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses for ESL learners ranging from the UTEL benchmark band 4 to 6. Accordingly, as a junior academic, I have engaged in self-reflection in order to explore a well-defined statement of teaching philosophy. W

Log Book

Image
Logbook serves as a working space for the teacher to document observations, informal   assessments of student activities and projects, and questions requiring further thought and  action (Richert, 1991).  The logbook contains a record of all the lessons delivered from the 03rd of October to the 09th of  November along with the date, time, and a brief description of the lesson. This logbook was certified  by the mentor every week, and at the completion of the practicum, it was approved by the head of the  department. In addition, the first section of the logbook includes an overview of the courses conducted  and the number of hours for each course. Click here to view the logbook. Weekly Schedules and Course Overviews

Image
"S tudents taking a class in a compressed or intensive scheduling format will perform as well, and    sometimes even better, than students in traditional scheduling formats "( Carrington, 2010,    p.52).                                                                             Weekly Schedules  I prefer working according to a schedule as I conscientiously reflect that I can manage my academics,  the responsibilities of my career and personal prospects when I follow a schedule.  The following schemes indicate how I have organized the teaching practicum.  Week 01  (03.10.2022 - 07.10.2022) Day Courses to be conducted Time (from-to) 03.10.2022 Foundation: A Certificate Course in English - Group 01 10.00 am - 1.00 pm DELT 11212 3.00 pm - 5.00 pm 04.10.2022 Foundation: A Certificate Course in English - Group 02 8.30 am - 11.30 am
